Last minute culture, free tickets, drinks and business in the fall: upcoming events!

Ivy Circle and Holland Festival on-location: “Before I Sleep” Thursday June 16th @7.30pm on the Zuidas, Amsterdam.

Come join fellow alumni for an adventurous evening of on-location Holland Festival theater in Amsterdam, followed by drinks and networking.

In the FOZ-building on the Amsterdam Zuidas the British theater troup DreamThinkSpeak has created a dreamlike world of change where the forces of old and new clash. Directed by Tristan Sharps, Before I Sleep is an hour-long performance installation inspired by the tragicomic play The Cherry Orchard by Anton Tsjechov. Before I Sleep is a continuous performance. Actors lead small groups through the transformed building every few minutes. We have reserved a group departure for the Ivy Circle. The Holland Festival has organized drinks for us starting 19.30 at nearby café Mech. The performance begins at 8PM and will last one hour. After the performance, we’ll decompress back at Mech with drinks and networking along with Ingrid Janssen, director of external relations for the Holland Festival.

It’s not too late to reserve. Please email Rick Amado r.l.amado@gmail.com. Price for the evening, including drinks, is €30 pp (young alumni under 30 pay €20 pp) to Ivy Circle Netherlands account 5714821 (IBAN: NL19INGB0005714821, BIC: INGBNL2A). Payment details: Before I Sleep 16 June, your name + number of guests.

Harvard alum and composer Vanessa Laan presents the premier of her work “O Whispering Suns” on Saturday July 2nd at the International Choir Biennale in Haarlem.

Laan’s piece for violin, cymbalon and voice is a meditation on loss, as well as a celebration of the ways that those no longer with us in body are always still with us in spirit. The inspiration for the piece comes from an Eastern European folk music form of shared lament (the doina) which connects individual singers to each other as they express their own stories but unite as one voice/choir. For further information contact Vanessa Laan at vlann33@hotmail.com.  To order tickets directly, please visit the festival website www.koorbiennale.nl.
